Turmeric Pickle and Fish Baked in Turmeric Leaves Recipe:

Turmeric  : Fight/Reduce Inflammation.

Turmeric is used in Ayurveda to balance vata, pitta, and kapha, though, in excess, it can aggravate pitta and vata. It has many beneficial effects for rasa and rakta dhatus (the blood and plasma of the circulatory system). It also kindles Agni (digestive fire), helping reduce Kapha and ama (toxins).

Turmeric is a common spice and a major ingredient in curry powder. Curcumin is a major component of turmeric, gives turmeric its yellow color. Curcumin may lower your risk of heart disease.

Turmeric is recognized as an alternative therapy for gastrointestinal problems. Turmeric is rich in anti-inflammatory and antioxidant compounds. It's said to have potent antiviral, antibacterial, and anticancer properties. Turmeric contains bioactive compounds with medicinal properties.

Turmeric/ Haldi powder: found in our traditional masala dabba, used in every day’s meal.




1 cup fresh turmeric roots

5/6 Green chilies

1 teaspoon ginger

1 lemon (Juice)

3 Tabs oil

1/2 Tabs Mustard seeds

1 pinch hing

3 pinches salt

Turmeric root looks a little like a small ginger root but is brilliant orange under the skin.

Pitta should use less hing and mustard seed.


Wash and thoroughly dry the turmeric roots. Peel and chop very fine.

Green chilies cut into small pieces.

Ginger chopped very fine.

Add lemon juice and salt. Stir well.

Heat the oil and add the mustard seeds and hing. Stir until the seeds pop. Cool and pour over the chopped turmeric.

 Haldi, chili and lemon mix taste is too good and keep your stomach healthy.

Cover and store in refrigerator. Keeps for up to 1 month AS LONG AS not a drop of water gets into the pickle, such as using a wet spoon to get the pickle out of the jar. The water will cause fermentation and the pickle will spoil.

 Eat in very small quantities with the meal.


Turmeric or Haldi leaves are also as good as Turmeric powder which maintain health, beauty and medicinal wonder. Just like its powdered version, the active ingredient in the turmeric leaf is curcumin, which is a powerful antioxidant.

Fish Baked in Turmeric Leaves Recipe:


Fish fillets - 1/2 kg

Green chilies - 4 to 5, minced

Ginger - 2 tsp, minced

Oil - 3 tbsp.

Turmeric leaves - 7 to 8

Lime juice to taste

Pepper powder to taste

Salt to taste


How to Prepare:

Cut the fillets in pieces.

Combine all the ingredients from green chilies to lime juice.

Line a baking dish with 1/2 the turmeric leaves.

Sprinkle 1/2 the masala over it.

Arrange the fillets in a single layer over it.

Sprinkle remaining masala over the fillets.

Cover with remaining leaves.

Bake in oven till done (Approx 25 minutes)
